I agree that The Departed may be overrated to some degree, especially compared to Scorsese films like Casino and Goodfellas. It was still a great movie, and being in a film that won an Oscar, 100% deserved or not, its a nice accomplishment. Not to mention Wahlberg was nominated for an Oscar of his own for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role . Furthermore, just being asked to be part of a Scorsese project of that scale is impressive...

You have to admit, the guy has come a long way from standing around posing with a bunch of half naked black guys

In your opinion those are classics although I agree with Boogie Nights as I enjoyed that movie.

But The Departed is in my opinion the most over-rated movie of that came out that year. Only reason it won most of its awards was because of Scorsese being "due" for them (i.e. Oscars).

The movie is a muddled and bloated remake of the Hong Kong movie "Infernal Affairs", which is a fact that I love how people fail to mention or even realize.

Infernal Affairs was just one part in a trilogy and it wasn't even the best part of that trilogy. I feel the second one was. In any case, those who saw The Departed or haven't seen it yet, go seek out the Infernal Affairs trilogy. It's available in the US on DVD, but if you can get the Hong Kong DVDs or the ones from England please do, since the first film has made up subtitles in the US thanks to Harvey Weinstein.
