How To Make It In America Get the inside track on HBO's latest comedy series from the producers of Entourage

New Trailer For “The Good Guy”

Posted on January 14, 2010

A new trailer was released for Bryan Greenberg's new movie The Good Guy. As I reported earlier, the indy film was picked up by Roadside Attractions. Expect a February 19th release date. With a movie release, and the debut of "How to Make It in America," looks like a huge week for Greenberg.

Synopsis - Ambitious young Manhattanite and urban conservationist Beth (Alexis Bledel) wants it all: a good job, good friends, and a good guy to share the city with. Of course that last one is often the trickiest of all. In the new romantic dramedy THE GOOD GUY, Beth falls hard for Tommy (Scott Porter), a sexy, young Wall Street hot-shot. But just as everything seems to be falling into place, complications arise in the form of Tommy’s sensitive and handsome co-worker Daniel (Bryan Greenberg). Beth soon learns that the game of love in the big city is a lot like Wall Street – high risk, high reward and everybody has an angle.

Lake Bell Attends Award Show, And Wins

Posted on January 13, 2010

Lake Bell showed up for the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards in New York on Monday. Not only did she show up, she won. As if getting to work with the likes of Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, and Meryl Streep wasn't good enough, now they are giving out awards for it.  Lake grabbed an award for Best Ensemble Cast for her part in It's Complicated. Previous winners include Doubt, and No Country For Old Men. Since I'm stalking following her on twitter, I'm able to bring you the picture below... By the way, Lake doesn't get nearly enough credit for having a ridiculous body.

Mark Wahlberg Raps With Animals

Posted on January 11, 2010

Mark Wahlberg's 1991 dance anthem "Good Vibrations" not only hit #1 in the U.S., but  also landed at the top of the charts in Sweden and Switzerland. Yea, I see the connection too.  Morph that into Andy Samberg's legendary roasting of Wahlberg on SNL and you get this beauty.

More Viral Video With Bryan Greenberg

Posted on January 10, 2010

Check out this video that has a cameo from Bryan Greenberg. As I mention in a recent post for the "I Google Myself" video, Greenberg and Erik Weiner are boys from back in the day. Not only did the star in the HBO series "Unscripted" together, but apparently they both managed to start their acting careers grabbing one liners on the "The Sopranos"

How Cool Is Mark Wahlberg

Posted on January 9, 2010

I have to admit, at one time in my life, I was a Mark Wahlberg hater. Up until about 6 or 7 years ago, I still would only referred to him as Marky Mark. I'm not sure why exactly. I think it was some kind of defense mechanism because I actually bought, and at one time blasted  "Good Vibrations" on a regular basis.  On top of that, somewhere as a child I must have thought being an underwear model wasn't a cool thing. Now that I have come to terms with my youth, and accepted my past mistakes (if you want to call it that), here is why I now not only envy Mr. Wahlberg, but think he is about as cool as it gets in Hollywood.

  1. Basketball Diaries
  2. Boogie Nights
  3. The Departed

Each is a classic, for different reasons of course. You can say what you want about his other 25 movie credits, which is quite an accomplishment in itself. Some were good, some were decent, and some we would like to forget. But it doesn't stop there. Adding to his stellar career in front of the camera, Wahlberg has hit gold as a producer on "In Treatment," and legendary HBO show "Entourage." He also has two upcoming shows that are destined for greatness in "How to Make It in America" and "Boardwalk Empire." That is how you get it done my friends.

While you soak that up, I have two more words for you... "Cocaine Cowboys" (2011)

Keeping It Real With Luis Guzman

Posted on January 9, 2010

The NewYorkDailyNews.com catches up with Luis Guzman, who co-stars in HBO's upcoming comedy series "How to Make It in America."

Even though I live on a spread that I always joke is like Central Park in Vermont — it's 300 acres — one of my biggest joys in life is being back on the lower East Side and hanging with my buddies in my old apartment.

I do that as much as I can, especially when I'm working here in the city, like I am now. It keeps me real, and it keeps me grounded. I bought the apartment in 1991 after I started to become an up-and-coming actor, and I never gave it up. I still have family here in the neighborhood, and my buddies never left.

It's a great feeling to be on the street and everybody's passing by, and everybody knows me and saying, "Wassup." It's like everyone here is proud of me and takes pride in my work because it's a reflection of where we come from. For them, I'm just one of the guys who happened to make it. It's just such a good feeling, because this is where I have my roots.

On nights when everyone's hanging out, I get my buddies and some of the guys I went to Seward High School with right around the corner, and we stay up till 4 or 5 in the morning, playing dominoes and cooking and drinking Cuba Libres.

I take pride in my mom teaching me how to cook, and I hook everyone up with arroz con gandules [rice and peas], chuletas [pork chops] and bacalao [codfish]. Though when it comes to pasteles [similar to tamales], I love telling everybody I made them — except that my mom orders them for me from the viejitas, the old ladies in the neighborhood who make extra money cooking for people.

People sometimes ask me why I don't just live in Hollywood since I'm on the set a lot, but it would take something extraordinary to make me leave this city.

When you're an actor you have to go where the work is, but you get to a certain point in your career where you're able to make your own decisions, and I'd rather stay close to home. And this will always be home to me. So it's safe to say I'm going to be staying in New York for a while.

Victor Rasuk Is Perfect In “Raising Victor Vargas”

Posted on January 8, 2010

In his very first movie , Victor Rasuk has accomplished something even the best of the best are unable to do. "Raising Victor Vargas," which stars Rasuk, was able to score a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. While its T-meter score slid to 96%, whats more impressive is that its "Top Critics" score remains perfect.  By comparison, summer blockbuster and James Cameron masterpiece "Avatar" comes in at 94%.

The movie, written and directed by Peter Sollett in 2003, stars Rasuk as Victor Vargas, a Lower East Side teenager who struggles to find some sanity while his image as a ladies man is shattered when he is found in Fat Donna's bedroom. Soon, as a result of his sister's big mouth, the whole Dominican community knows. Full of confidence, Victor sets out to reclaim his image by winning Judy. Judy proves to be elusive and difficult but Victor persists, and with a surprising tenderness, ultimately wins Judy's heart..

  • It's the kind of movie you know you can trust, and you give yourself over to affection for these characters who are so lovingly observed. -Robert Ebert - Chicago Sun Times
  • Raising Victor Vargas has landed exactly the right actors for a script that already gets points for respecting its teenage characters. - Mike Clark - USA Today
  • Peter Sollett, cast the film with kids from his own neighborhood, who give themselves over to the camera with a spirit of improvised play that morphs into vivid, layered acting. Owen Gleiberman - Entertainment Weekly
